Root Canal

Did you know that a root canal procedure is nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be? It’s actually not much more difficult than a simple dental filling treatment. There are only a few extra steps that are completely pain-free since we use a local anesthetic. So, if you’ve ever been concerned when a dentist has uttered these two words, there’s no need to fear!

What is a Root Canal?

A root canal is often necessary when a tooth has become damaged due to an accident, extreme decay, or infection. If a cavity is caught early enough, a simple filling will often suffice.

However, if the tooth is left untreated for too long, the damage can reach the soft pulp inside the tooth that is made up of connective tissue, nerves, and blood vessels. In these cases, the pulp will need to be removed.

What to Expect During a Root Canal Procedure

Before we start, we first numb the tooth and the surrounding area, so you won’t feel any discomfort during the procedure. The dentist will begin by creating a hole in the crown so they can access the pulp. Once they remove it, they’ll thoroughly clean the affected area and fill it with gutta-percha.

To protect the tooth and prevent further infection, we’ll craft a custom-made crown that fits over your natural tooth.

What Are the Benefits of a Root Canal?

  • Your restoration will look and feel completely natural
  • The procedure itself is pain-free
  • You’ll no longer have to deal with your toothache or sensitivity
